Shockingly enough the Kardashian family has recently been absent from the limelight. After Kim Kardashian’s chilling Paris robbery, the reality star has chosen to live in the shadows for a bit. Coupled with Kanye West’s recovery after having a mental breakdown, the empire has not appeared as a powerful entertainment kingdom for too long and the Kardashian subjects have grown impatient.
After both husband and wife went through traumatic experiences, they have both withdrawn from the public eye and in a sense tried to connect on a more basic level. They both shed the flashy clothing and expensive jewels for a more simplistic lifestyle that allows them to focus more on being people than running an empire. The kingdom lifestyle has clearly taken a toll on the family because in a sense it strips their humanity away and the public wants to see them all the time and wants them to top themselves every time which are unrealistic expectations to put on a human being. Similar to how the subjects of the British monarchy always expect William and Kate to look their best and behave in a certain manner. Their every move is watched by millions of people and it puts them on a pedestal that can sometimes dehumanize them. Similarly, the Kardashian empire looks exhausted from trying to please their subjects and their much needed vacation seems like a move to connect more with the common people.
Kingdoms often provide services for their subjects and try to place themselves in their shoes, but at the end of the day kingdoms are not common. Royalty is wealthy and they can only ever try to understand a poor man’s life. The Kardashians have built their massive empire and they are not afraid to flaunt their wealth. In fact, their luxurious lifestyle only adds to their empire. The people want to see their life and how it feels to be rich and famous. Their obscene displays of wealth are what keeps their entertainment empire afloat, which is why Kim and Kanye’s retreat into a private life shocked the public.
The people were anxious to know more about Kim and Kanye’s subdued and quiet lifestyle and of course the Kardashian empire delivered. A series of photographs were posted by Kim on social media that showed the couple spending time with their two kids. Both were dressed casually and the photos had a filter on them to mimic 90’s photographs. Even the house in the pictures seemed average and normal.
Unfortunately the Kardashian kingdom has come under fire as people are outraged that Kim Kardashian is ‘acting poor’. The public is upset because they believe Kim could have simply posted pictures of her and her husband spending time with their kids, but instead she dressed very simple and took the pictures in a normal house despite the public knowing how extravagant her home looks. They believe these pictures to be staged and think the empire is trying to connect with the common folk in a very transparent and poorly executed way. If the empire is trying to reinvent itself, it has certainly got the people talking about them and as Phineas T. Barnum said, “there’s no such thing as bad publicity”.
